Introducing No More Noise: Building Healthier Soundscapes Together
Noise is a public health issue, and too many cities are still treating it as background.
For many residents, noise is not just an occasional annoyance. The surprising fact is that noise is the second-worst environmental health threat after air pollution, and the human body has no defence against it. It can affect sleep, stress, concentration, mental wellbeing, and quality of life at home. Whether it comes from modified vehicle exhausts, construction, amplified sound, overnight garbage collection, stationary equipment such as air conditioners and rooftop fans, or other recurring sources, unwanted noise can shape how people experience their neighbourhoods every day.
No More Noise was created to help solve noise pollution. Our work is grounded in a simple idea: people deserve healthier soundscapes, and cities need better tools, better data, and better policies to address harmful noise. Our approach brings together lived experience, research, technical expertise, and policy advocacy. That means listening to residents, working with experts, exploring better enforcement tools, and helping connect the dots between community concerns and decision-makers.
This blog is a place to share research, community updates, policy developments, resident experiences, and practical ways to take action. As our work grows, we want to make information easier to find and easier to follow.
Here, you’ll find updates on topics such as motor vehicle noise, noise cameras, health impacts, stationary noise sources, amplified sound, gas-powered lawn care, community data, and emerging noise technology.
Noise can be difficult to measure, explain, and address. But that does not mean it should be ignored.
No More Noise is working to move noise from the background to the public agenda.
If you care about building calmer, healthier, more livable cities, we invite you to follow along, share your experiences, and get involved.
