Louder Than Noise municipal election campaign encouraging residents to ask candidates about vehicle noise

Louder Than Noise: Speak Up This Election

September 11, 2026•2 min read

Have you ever been unwinding after a long day or putting a baby to sleep, only to have the quiet shattered by a roaring, modified exhaust?

If illegal vehicle noise frustrates you, you are not alone. When you ask about loud vehicles at a candidate town hall, know that many others in the room agree with you—you aren't nuts, and you aren't wrong.

Vehicle "vanity noise" is more than an annoyance; it is a public health hazard. Night-time noise disrupts sleep, raises stress, and contributes to long-term health risks like heart disease, diabetes, and mental health issues. In kids, it impairs learning; in seniors, it drives isolation.

With municipal elections coming up on October 26, we have a chance to hold candidates accountable. Don't settle for promises to "look into it". Ask them for real commitments.

3 Questions to Ask Candidates at Town Halls

Take the mic at local debates or email your candidates with these questions:

  1. On Vehicle Noise: "What will you do to eliminate the illegally loud cars and motorbikes disturbing our streets?"

  2. On Automated Noise Cameras: "Will you join other cities in pushing Ontario to allow automated noise enforcement cameras?"

  3. On Proactive Bylaws: "Will you support redefining noise as 'unwanted and/or harmful sound' so the city proactively enforces noise rules instead of waiting for resident complaints?"

How We’re Tracking Candidates
